The Gaddige Raja’s Tomb is one of the most important historic buildings of Coorg. It is a place of great historic significance for those who love to explore the various aspects of history. The architecture of this tomb is intriguing and this is the place where the mortal remains of the mighty Kodavas as well as their dignitaries are displayed.
Madikeri Fort:
Madikeri Fort is a fabulous attraction and you will regret missing it. In the 17th century Mudduraja mud fort. Inside this marvelous palace was a beautiful palace built. Later on when Tipu Sultan visited here he found it amazing and he got it revamped granite and he renamed it as Jaffarabad. This beautiful fort has witnessed many battles and when Doddavira Rajendra took control he renamed and renovated this fort as Wodeyar II in 1812-1814. There are two huge elephant statues at the entrance of this fort. There is a church made in the south east corner of this fort and this place offers breathtaking view of the city. The architecture of this fort is amazing and here you can check out an old prison, a beautiful temple and a chapel. Another attraction here is the small yet interesting museum along with some government offices.
Nalknad Palace:
The Nalknad palace which was built in1792 by Dodda Viraraja is another amazing attraction in Coorg. The lovely architecture and paintings mounted of the walls of this palace allure tourists coming from all across the world. This palace was actually hunting lodge during the early times and its double storied Kodava architecture and wood work is great. Located at the foot of the Thadiyandamol peak this palace speaks out for its rich history and architecture.
Abbey Falls:
One must not miss attraction of Coorg is the Abbey Falls. You can take a day picnic herewith your family. It is one of the most important attractions of Coorg and the breathtaking natural beauty of Abbey Falls is awesome. Raja’s Seat:
Raja’s seat means the Seat of the King and it is situated in the western direction of Madikeri towards the end. According to the locals in the Raja’s Seat there is a pavilion and the Kodava rajas used to enjoy sun set from here. Irupu Falls:
Irupu Falls a cascade of fresh water located 48 Kms away from Virajpet. The other names of this falls are Lakshmana Tirtha Falls. One of the major tourist attractions of Coorg is Lakshmana Tirtha Falls. Rameshwara Temple is present near the banks of river Lakshmana Tirtha. During Shiv Ratri huge population of devotees visit this temple of Lord Shiva.
Omkareshwara Temple:
It is one of the beautiful temples of Coorg and Lingrajendra II built this temple during 1820 CE.
