The birthday of this great past ruler of Mewar Maharana Pratap is celebrated in recognition of his contribution towards the freedom fights of India.

About the Hero Maharana Pratap
Maharana Pratap ruled Mewar during the period of 16th century. Pratap Singh was his name by birth. He took birth in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan on Ninth of May 1540. He was born to father Maharana Udai Singh II and Rani Jeevant Kanwa as mother. He was the eldest son to King Udai Singh II.
Since Birth he was having the true passion to behave like a true Kshatriya king. It was in the year 1568 Mughal emperor Akbar invaded Chittor and Udai Singh II   decided to move to Gogunda. His brother Jagmal avail this opportunity to take over the throne, but later when he failed to manage the responsibilities he joined the army of Akbar to take revenge on Maharana Pratap.

Struggle of Maharana Pratap
As a true hero Maharana Pratap faced all struggles in life and in his career as a king of Mewar. All through his life he continued fighting with Akbar, but every time Akbar failed to win over Maharana Pratap. It was really difficult on his part to forget the episode in which Akbar killed more than 30,000 residents who were totally unarmed in Chittor as because they all refused to get them converted to Islam as per Akbar's instruction. This cruelty of Akbar provoked Maharana Pratap to continue his fight against Akbar following the code of a Kshatriya ruler.

Battle of Haldighati
Maharana Pratap was the first true patriot who took the initiative to fight the first war for the independence. Battle of Haldighati became famous as this was the last war of Maharana Pratap against Akbar which lasted for about 4 hours. He fought this battle with great courage before escaping from the battle field.
