Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Death Anniversary

The nation remembers the death anniversary of former Prime Minister, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru every year on May 27, 2016. He was one of the foremost leader of Indian freedom struggle. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the favourite disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and later went on to become the first PM of India. He was the first Prime Minister of independent India. He is widely regarded as the architect of modern India. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru was very fond of children and children used to affectionately call him Chacha Nehru.

Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru was associated with Congress Party that led the freedom movement against British Rule. He was also the chief architect of international and domestic policies between 1947 amd 1964. It was under his supervision that the Nation launched its first 5-Year Plan in 1951. Nehru's major participation in substantiating India's role in the foundation of institutions like NAM had amazed even the then stalwarts of international politics. Jawahar Lal Nehru advocated the Non-Alignment policy during the cold war and India, then, kept itself apart from being in the process of "global bifurcation".
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was a supporter of the anti-imperialist policy. He was also one of the prominent architects of the Non-Aligment Movement. In 1964, he suffered a stroke and a heart attack. On 27 May 1964, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru passed away. He was cremated at Shantivana on the banks of Yamuna River, New Delhi.
