Shivaji Jayanti is celebrated as the birthday of the Indian emperor Shivaji. He is known to be the founder of the Maratha Empire, and is called as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by his followers. The festival, celebrated in a grand manner, is observed by majorly the people of the Indian state Maharashtra. The emperor was born on this special day in the year of 1627.

About Shivaji

Leading an army of his own, Shivaji was able to defend his kingdom against the forces of the-then Mughal Empire and the Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur. He even went on to establish an independent Maratha kingdom in the name of Hindavi Swarajya, meaning self-rule of the Hindus. In 1674, Shivaji was honored by the name Chhatrapati, meaning paramount sovereign, in the -then capital of Maratha, called Raigad. His empire covered a major part of the Indian subcontinent and lasted till 1818.

Shivaji is well known to be a brave soldier, filled with self-dependence and the responsibility. During his empire, he was known to be a king of good heart, but with proper and strict disciplines and justifications. Alongside having these great attributes as a human, Shivaji is also highly praised for his innovative military tactics, which were good enough to cover any geographical disadvantage against the enemy forces. At the same time, his innovative guerilla warfare methods were also full of surprises and pinpoint attacks over the enemies.

Shivaji and his brilliant warfare tactics are bright examples for any military force. It is so because he was able to defeat a larger army force with his men. The Hindu court conventions and the political administrations were also much improved during his time, specifically under his rule. Not just as an ideal human, Shivaji is also hailed as a mighty administrator of warfare. His visions on warfare in terms of both inland and coastal were equally exclusive.
