Taj Mahotsav

Taj Mahotsav is a festival that is celebrated every year for a 10-day period. It is celebrated in the Indian city of Agra, near Taj Mahal. The festival concerns the honour of memories regarding the Mughal Empire. Another significance that comes forward by the festival is about the royal life styles of the Mughal Empires who ruled in the 18th and the 19th centuries.

About the Mughal Era

The Mughal Empire in India saw a few of the mightiest rulers that continued for several centuries, starting from early 1500s. Most of the empires were known to be the Muslims. The empire had seen several grand Indian cities to be the capitals in respect with the emperors. The first Mughal emperor was Babur, who is known as the founder of the empire. The last mentionable Mughal emperor was Aurangzeb, under whom the empire was kept to its grand height. After the death of Aurangzeb, the empire lost its glimpse within a century.

The most notable emperor was Shah Jahan, the fifth emperor. Under his rule, the golden era of the Mughal architecture flourished. Among other of his creations, the building of Taj Mahal in Agra is the most famous. Its works have reached to such world fame that the building was once considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Other notable Mughal Emperors were Akbar the Great and his son Jahangir. The great works of the emperors and their countrymen in various subjects are still invaluable treasures in terms of historical significance of the country. The empire started collapsing during the defeat of Aurangzeb in the hands of the Maratha leader Shivaji. The last emperor was named Bahadur Shah II, ending the greatness in 1857. The British Raj or the British rule in India commencing significantly during that time is known to be the main reason of the last draw of blood or the fall of the empire.

Celebrating Taj Mahotsav

Taj Mahotsav is grandly celebrated, driving the tourists deliberately to be parts. Starting from the drum beaters to the trumpet players, each and every single person being engaged in the festival takes the celebration to a peak form. The craft works and the folk dances are major parts of the celebration. Another significant part is played by the artisans who arrive from various parts of the country for exhibiting their creations.
