Utpanna Ekadashi
‘Uttpatti Ekadashi’ or ‘Utpanna Ekadashi’ is observed on the ‘Ekadashi’ (11th day) of the Krishna Paksha during the ‘Margashirsh’ or Kartik month of the Hindu calendar. In order to get rid of sins (both the present and past lives) Devotees who begin the Ekadashi Fast should start with this Ekadashi. Keeping fast on this auspicious day with full devotion and dedication also helps to attain Salvation (Moksha).
Utpanna Ekadashi Date
25 November 2016 / Friday
Tithi Begins 24-Nov-2016 05:25 AM
Tithi Ends 25-Nov-2016 07:41 AM
The main reason for celebrating this Ekadashi is the mythological story about Lord Vishnu and demon Murasura. Once Lord Vishnu was sleeping and meanwhile, demon Mura thought of killing Lord Vishnu and taking over him. To overcome this situation, Mata Ekadashi appeared and killed the demon.
Pleased by her act, God Vishnu blessed Maa Ekadashi and informed that anybody observing this Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat would be blessed with salvation. Since then, most devotees observe a fast and recite Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat Katha (story) on Uttpatti Ekadashi. For the courage and devotion towards the Lord Vishnu we also worship Maa Ekadashi on this day.
