![]() Siliguri- The Gateway to the North Eastern States of India Major Tourist Spots of Siliguri Coronation Bridge: Constructed in 1930 over the converging point of Rivers Teesta and Rangeet, this bridge presents a perfect example of the British architecture and design. It is also known by the name of Sevoke Bridge and connects Slugara with Kalijhora. The name of the bridge was chosen to commemorate the Coronation of King George V. The bridge is surrounded by high green mountains on both the sides and provides a mesmerizing view of the gushing river underneath it. Located at a distance of nearly 20 kms from Siliguri, it is one of the most important bridges in the north-east, which connects Darjeeling with Jalpaiguri. North Bengal Science Centre: The North Bengal Science Centre is divided into various sub-centers that focus on specific aspects of science and environment. The Science Park at the Centre offers no less than 45 interesting and interactive exhibits to the visitors. It uses innovative methods to educate the visitors about the basic rules of science, which makes it quite appealing to youngsters. There is also the Earth Science Centre, which displays the different facts about earth science through its 22 exhibits in an interesting manner. There is also a Nature Gallery and a Turtle Pool which respectively give an insight into the biodiverse environment of diverse aquatic life forms in the region. Kali Mandir: This Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali is amongst the most revered places in Siliguri town. Located near the Coronation Bridge, the temple is frequented by newly web couples seeking blessings for a happy married life. The idol of Goddess Kali, established in the temple is covered with jewels besides being heavily armed. The temple sees a great rush of visitors especially during Navratra and Durga Puja, as these two festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show. Visitors are also able to get a glimpse of the peak of Mount Kanchenjunga from the temple. The Salugara Monastery: Located just 6 kms outside the town of Siliguri, the Salugara Monastery is one of the most respected and popular places in the town. The most important attraction of the Monastery is the 100 ft high stupa, which according to local legend was established by the Tibetan Lama Kalu Rinpoche. The Buddhist monks hold the stupa in great reverence as reveals the five kinds of relics of Buddhism. It is also believed that people who see the stupa are bound to get salvation from this material world. The Monastery is often frequented by monks and tourists wanting to spend some peaceful time in meditation.
