Surat is a very famous Metropolis in Gujarat state of India. Besides, the distance from Gujarat to Gandhinagar is 306 km. This city has more than 4.5 million people. History of Surat
In the Indian epic of Mahabharta, the name of Surat is mentioned in golden words. As per this epic Lord Krishna visited and stopped in this place on his way to Dwarka from Mathura. History of this place reveals the fact that during the period of 610 CE it was ruled by the Chalukyas. This rulership of different Hindu kings continued till the time the area was captured by Quṭbuddīn Aibak and his generals. Parsi people started settling down in Surat and contributed in a great way towards the development as well as prosperity of the place during 8th Century. It acted as the silk route between Gujrat and Iran during historic time. After this, Surat came under the rulership of various dynasties and Empires and now is considered as one of the most important cities of India, contributing greatly to the economic development of the country. 

Places to see in Surat:
Dumas: Dumas is one of the most popular tourist spot in Surat. This spot is located 16km away from the Surat. This is truly a great place where you can take accommodation and relax. Temples to see in Surat:
Swaminarayan Temple: This is a famous temple in Surat and a number of pilgrims visit this temple daily. This temple includes 3 shrines in which the first shrine is dedicated to Radha Krishna and HariKrishna Maharaj. Besides, the second shrine is dedicated to Gopalanand Swami, Gunatitanad Swami and Swaminarayan. Its 3rd shrine is dedicated to Ganshyam Maharaj.

Ambika Niketan Temple: This is another great temple which was built in 1969. Besides, this temple is dedicated to Ashtabuja Ambika. This temple also includes the shrines of various gods like Laxminarayan and Ram-Sita. 

Chintanamani Jain temple: This is one of the popular firms located in Surat. A number of tourists visit this firm daily.

Sardar Patel Museum: Sardar Patel museum is very famous across the world and it was built in 1889.
There are also some other places like Gaurav Path, Surat Castle, Choappati and river side castle.
