Vadodara is a very famous location in India and it was formerly known as Baroda. Besides this, Vadodara is the most populated and 3rd largest city of Gujarat in India. This city includes population of more than 1.6 million people. This city is especially famous for the Lakshmi Vilas Palace. History of Vadodara
If we look into the history of this place then we will get to see that history mentions about this place when trade settlers settle for the first time in this place during 812 AD. In the initial period this place was totally dominated by Hindu rulers till the period 1297. The Guptas were the first ruler of this place and after a strong battle in between the Guptas and Chalukyas; the place came under the rule of the Dynasty of Chalukyas. In later part the region of Baroda came under the rule of Solanki dynasty. After this the Muslim rulers start spreading their dynasty and it again came under the rule of Delhi Sultans. Baroda remains under the rule of Delhi Sultans for pretty long time and then it was snatched from Delhi Sultans by the Mughals in an easy way. But Baroda remains problematic for the Mughals and it was taken over by the Marathas. It became the capital for the Maratha Kings. Various improvements were brought by the then Maratha King Shiv Bhatt who ruled it from 1875 to 1939.

Temples to see in Vadodara:

Kirti Mandir: This Vadodara temple is located nearby to the Vishwamitri Bridge. Maharaja Sayajirao had built this cenotaph. This temple has its walls made up of marble walls and these walls are also decorated with murals of Natir Pooja, Gangavataran, and life of Meera and Mahabharata battle.   

EME temple: This temple is also known as Dakshinamurti temple and it was built by the famous Mechanical and Electrical Corps. Besides, no person will be allowed to take the Photos inside this temple.

Nyya Mandir: This is a very temple in Vadodara city and it was built in the year 1896. This temple was designed by a famous Madras architect ‘Robert Fellowes’. This temple also reflects the Mughal and Renaissance architectural styles too.

Surya Mandir: Surya Mandir is one of the legendary temples in India and a number of devotees visit this temple daily. Besides, this temple is dedicated to the god ‘Surys Narayan Baug’. This temple can be easily accessible via private cars, buses and rickshaws.

Tourist places to visit in Vadodara:

Maharaja Sayajirao University: This University is usually referred to as M.S. University and it is one of the top universities in India. Besides, it was established in the year 1949 by the king Pratap Singh Gaekwad. The building of this institute was built by the famous architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm. 

Laxmi Vilas Palace: Maharaja Sayajirao had built this palace in the year 1890. Its Darbar hall looks outstanding and a number of people visit this palace every year. 

Nazarbaug Palace: It is a royal place for the Gaekwad. It was in the year 1721 when this palace was built by Malhār Rāo Gaekwad in the 19th century. Here you can take a glance of the depository golden and silver weapons like guns, barrels and even jewellery of the Gaekwad family.

Makarpura Palace: Another beautiful palace in Vadodara is Makarpura Palace. This palace was built by Maharaja Khende Rao in the year 1870. The designing of the palace was done in Italian style. In later part renovation and extension of the palace was done by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. Now this palace acts as a school for the Indian Air Force.
Sursagar Lake: Sursagar lake is located in the mid of Vadodara city. Many people are using this lake at present for boating. This lake looks extremely great especially in the moonlight. There is also large statue of Lord Shiva in the middle of this lake. Special lightings will be arranged every week during Saturday and Sunday. Thus many people usually visit this lake during Saturday and Sunday to enjoy its beauty. In fact this lake looks like a heaven on Earth.
