Ahobilam, the land where Prahlada was blessed by Lord Narsimha
Ahobhilam or Ahobalam is a place of religious importance and it is located in a small place Allagadda mandal which comes in the Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Ahobhilam is one such place where there are two popular temples named as the lower Ahobilam and the other one is upper Ahobilam. According to the legendary tales, it is said that this is the place where Prahlads was blessed by Lord Narsimha and Prahlada killed Hiranyakashipu.
In the forest range of Nallamala itself there are nine temples where several pilgrims make a visit each year. The architecture of these temples is intriguing and the sculptures made on the temples are remarkable. The temples stand out in terms of the beauty and elegant style of architecture. There are some temples out of these nine temples and you need to take a trekking experience to reach these temples. Some of these beautiful and alluring temples are built inside the interesting caves.  There are some temples and to reach there you need to take a difficult trekking trail. These nine temples are dedicated the nine planets which define the fates of the human beings.

Legendary stories related to Ahobilam:
There are legendary stories related to Ahobilam, according to the first story, when the Devas saw Narsimah who was Lord Vishnu’s avatar as half-lion and half-man. In surprise and awe they said "Ahobala" which means great strength and from there this place got its name. Another story related to this place is, that the name "Ahobila" means a great cave in Hindi. So, there are two names of this place and it is popular with both the names. There is a mention of Ahobilam or Ahobila in the great mythological book Brahmanda Purana.
As we have already mentioned, Ahobilam is a religiously important place where there are nine shrines and all of them are dedicated to almighty  Lord Narasimha who was Lord Vishnu’s half man and half lion avatar. All the temples in the town are beautiful and have their own significance. The important temples in the Ahobilam town are, Srikalahasti, Mukhalingam, Srisailam, Bhadrachalam, Kapila Theertham, Mangalagiri, Srinivasa Manga Puram ,Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple and. We will suggest you to visit all the temples because these temples are not very far away from each other.

Visiting the Nine Shrines of Ahobilam:

Bhargava Narasimha Swamy:  Lord here is present at a distance which is 2.5 Km calculated from lower Ahobilam along with Akshaya thertha. Parsurama performed penance on behalf of Lord Narshima

Yogananda Narasimha Swamy: This place is considered best for doing meditation. It is said That Prahlada achieved all prosperity in life only after doing meditation for lord over here.

Chatravata Narasimha Swamy: The shadowy planet Ketu , worshipped for the lord here to managed to gain all comforts of life.

Ahobila  Narasimha Swamy: This is the main Lord of Nav Narshima and considered as the prime temple of Upper Ahobilam. Goddess Chenchu is present with the main lord.

Varaha Narasimha Swamy: This place is almost one Km above Upper Ahobilam. Her lord is present with Lakshmiji. Those who pray here get rid of all obstacles in life due to lord's blessings.

Malola Narasimha Swamy: Lakshmi Parvata is the place where this temple is located. Prime Lord along with Goddess Mahalakshmi blesses all devotees here.

Jwala Narasimha Swamy: Fierce looking Lord Narshima is present here . When lord is served over here, his blessings brings success in life and prospective marriages take place.

Paavana Narasimha Swamy:  Here the Lord gives a peaceful appearance which indicates that he helps devotees to get out of all sins of life.

Karanja Narasimha Swamy: Serve this lord with Good action, Good word and Good thought and he will bless you with you with happiness and fulfillment of eternal desire.

Some important things to keep in mind, while traveling in Ahobilam:
For trekking and hiking, Ahobilam offers amazing trekking trails. The lush green forest plus the natural splendor of these trekking trails will make your experience exciting. Since there are some difficult treks as we have already mentioned, so it might take around nine to ten hours of hiking. We will recommend you to carry some water bottles or juices along with some snacks. You can also carry some empty water bottles and fill them from the natural springs. Do not miss the tasty and refreshing spring water. We will also recommend you to wear comfortable shoes, preferably sneakers because trekking for such a long time can hurt your feet. Be careful while trekking because there are monkeys in the forests who can snatch your food. Do not feed them and do not litter.

To reach Ahobilam there are rail as well as road routes. Take a train to Nandhyal which is the nearest railway station from Ahobilam. The best time to visit Ahobilam is from November to January. During this time the climate of the place is cool and pleasant. We will recommend you to take a stick while trekking and if you feel tired and cannot walk further, you can take a doli which will carry you till the destination.
