Gauri Teej is the festival celebrated in Magh month. Third day from the new moon, it is celebrated to attain blessings of Goddess Parvati (who is also known as Gauri) and Lord Shiva. The rituals are observed for prosperity, peace and harmony. The divine couple of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshipped on the day.

The morning time is considered good to perform Gauri Teej. Teej Puja should be done after taking morning bath and getting well dressed up with clean and colored clothes. God Shiva and Maa Parvati should be worshipped and legend of Goddess Gauri(Gauri Katha) should be narrated during the Puja ceremony. Married women should worship Maa Gauri by offering kumkum, sandal powder, flower etc.    

The main Puja steps are as follows

  • Early morning bath
  • Dressing up with fine clothes
  • Sankalp (expressing divine intention) to perform Gauri Teej to please Goddess Gauri (Parvati)
  • Worship God Ganesh before worshipping God Shiva and Maa Parvati (Shakti)
  • Puja of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati
