Haridwar is a very famous destination in India. This pilgrimage district is located in the state ‘Uttarakhand’. This is History says that, the Amrit had fallen in the places Haridwar, Prayag, Nasik and Ujjain while the Bird Garuda is carrying it. This is how the Kumba Mela came into existence. This Kumba mela happens in Haridwar for every 12 years, while for every 3 years in any one of the four places.

Some millions devotees, pilgrims visits this place to do bath in the holy river Ganges as it washes away all their sins. It is at the Har Ki Pauri where the Amrit had fell exactly in Haridwar and thus Har Ki Pauri has become the most sacred Ghat in Haridwar. This city is a highly developing city and there a number of companies located in it.

History of the city of Haridwar:
Nature lovers name this place as the paradise for the lovers of nature. When you visit this holy destination you can feel the true essence of the Indian culture. In History this places is also mentioned as Mayapuri, Gangadwar and Kapilsthan. For Char Dham Yatra, Haridwar acts as the gateway for this Yatra.  Devotees of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, visit this place to take blessings. The Place is called as both Hardwar and Haridwar. Har means lord Shiva and Hari means Lord Vishnu. As per historical stories King, Bhagirath being the grandson of King Sagar brought the river Ganga straight down from the heaven after several years of meditation to provide relief to 60000 ancestors from the curse given by Rishi Kapila. Still even today Hindu devotees visit this place with the ashes of their passed away relatives for achieving salvation.

Places to see in Haridwar:

There are many famous places in Haridwar and some of them are

Har ki Pauri: This is a very famous Ghat in Haridwar and King Vikramaditya had built this Ghat as a memory of his loving brother Bhatrihari. History says Batrihari use to mediate via river Ganges. This Ghat is also called as Brahmkund too. The Ganga Aarti ceremony which happens in this Ghat looks like heaven on earth. The reflection of Diyas on Ganges River looks outstanding. A person will definitely feel like not leaving the place forever.

Chandi Devi temple: The goddess Chandi had killed the demon king Chanda-Munda in this place. Thus, this goddess has got the name Chandi Devi. This temple is located in the top of Neel Parvat and it was constructed in the year 1929 AD and the history says that Adi Shankaracharya had established the goddess statue in the 8th century AD. You can now access this temple through the rope way too and this rope way starts near the famous temple ‘Gauri Shankar temple’.

Mansa Devi temple: This is another must see temple in Haridwar and it is located on the top of Bilwa Parvat.
Vaishno Devi temple: This is a newly built temple and it resembles the original Vaishno Devi temple of Jammu & Kashmir.
Bharat Mata Temple: This is truly a great temple where you can find the images and stories of the real life heroes, great men and cities.
Maya Devi temple: This is a very ancient Shaktipeeths where the navel and heart of the goddess Sati had fallen.

The places to visit around Haridwar include Rishikesh, Triveni Ghat, Devprayag, Kanva Rishi Ashram etc. The Haridwar to Rishikesh distance includes 28km.

Shopping in Haridwar: 
Haridwar is famous for fabrics, god idols, handicrafts and woman accessories too. Besides, most of the devotees usually buy containers in this place to carry the Ganga Jal, which is considered as a very holy water.
